All questions in this section must be completed

Title (for this application):
If the project previously has received computer
time from The Research Council of Norway,
please state the account number:
The project belongs to the following
category (select one):
If the project is financed by the Research Council of Norway (RCN/NFR) or by the Ministry of Education and Research (UFD), specify the title and contract number of the project.
For NFR projects, specify the name of the programme(s):

(Please hold Shift or Ctrl to choose several alternatives)
If other, please specify:

In case the project is supported from other sources (e.g., EU, industry, ...), please provide details.

Describe the project in no more than 4000 characters with sufficient detail to judge the scientific and engineering problems, merits, and impact, including a description of the computational methods and software and a discussion of their quality and state-of-the-art. Reference to previous applications is not allowed.

Please specify the Projects need for storage.
Expected total size for home directories (in GigaByte):
Expected maximum size for temporary (disk) storage (in GigaByte):
Expected total size for tape storage (in TeraByte):

Hours of CPU time requested on resource (click name for details):
magnum (HP SuperDome ) : hours njord (IBM System p5 ) : hours
snowstorm (HP Cluster ) : hours    titan (Dell Intel and SUN AMD 1350+ core system) : hours
  number of requested allocation units:

See www.notur.no/quotas for more information on Allocation UNITS

Note: The machines tre and fire will be taken out of the Notur system March 31, 2007. Applications for resources on tre for the period 2007.1 are in principle possible but must be justified. Applications for resources on fire for the period 2007.1 will not be considered.

Describe the feasibility of using the requested resource(s). A description of characteristics of the software and simulations that limits the choice of the machines that can be used (e.g., memory, disk, I/O requirements, and 3rd party software). E.g., why is a shared-memory platform needed and not a cluster? List the resources from the list above that can also be used but for which no hours are requested. Also state the reasons for not having used previous granted quotas.

Describe the need for national (and not local) resources. In case the applicant requests access to the national part of the machine at his/her home institution, a reason must be provided.

Detail the expected measurable output in number of publications and students (master and PhD) in the requested period.

If you apply for less than 100 000 Allocation Units and you have filled in all the fields above, you can now submit the form (use the 'Submit Form' button at the end of this page). If you apply for a LARGE project (more than 100 000 Allocation Units), you must also provide the following information.

Any information available in a format not suited for this form may be sent by email to sigma@uninett.no

CV of the applicant (max. 4 pages), including a list of recent publications and references (URL):

Describe the experience of using the HPC resources by the applicant and the users connected to the application.

Describe the efficiency of the software in terms of sustained single-processor performance, or scalability in case the project envisages to run parallel simulations with many processors.

Suggest 3-4 referees to review this application. The referees must have competence with HPC within this application area. Referees should not have recent or ongoing collaborations with any members of the research group or any other possible conflicts of interest. (Name, title, affiliation, and email address are required.)

The duration of a LARGE project is one or two allocation periods (6 or 12 months). In case resources are requested for two allocation periods, state this below and break down the number of Allocation Units budget over the two allocation periods. Additional resources granted by a university on the local part of the machine(s) for this project must also be stated.
