The NMA will contribute to the training of PhD students and young researchers throughout the Nordic and neighbouring countries by organising a series of activities (for specific details follow the menu on the left):
• Advanced Courses for PhD students and young researchers in specialised topics in which courses are not offered at the national level.
4 courses were held during 2005 and 6 courses during 2006. 7 courses are being offered in 2007, while one course is already scheduled for 2008. There are 2 annual deadlines for presentation of proposals for organising courses: Feb 1 and Oct 1.
• Mobility grants for students and young researchers to visit a research group in another Nordic country with a specific objective (e.g. to learn a new technique or to access a collection or a particular piece of equipment). Proposals will be accepted continuously and evaluated after 4 fixed annual cut-off dates: August 1, November 1, February 1, and April 1
• The NMA will also organise Scientific Workshops and Seminars on specific topics, and grant partial support to conferences. 4 fixed annual deadline: February 1, April 1, August 1, November 1.
• NMA members will benefit from customised Internet Resources providing on-line access to course material, databases and discussion fora.
• This website will include a public section with information on current regional problems in fisheries and marine science currently being debated in the public media, and with background information on the problem. The information will be submitted by the contact persons at the member institutions and eventually edited by the secretariat before being included in the webpage.
