Welcome! The preferred course is chosen among four courses.
The front page of the course KUN151-F Painting and Sculpture from Antiquity to Mannerism. The student will always be met with the latest news and messages from the academic and administrative course coordinators.
Academic forum. Here is information from the academic course coordinator. There are links to academic assignments, discussion groups and chat.
Bulletin Board containing messages from administrative coordinator and links to general discussion groups and students’ e-mail addresses.
Lectures are linked to various resources such as the bank of illustrations ("bildebank"). Students can print out whole lectures or parts of lectures.
The bank of illustrations has a searchable survey of artists and works of art. Students can search by the title of a work of art, artist, époque, country, city, owner, and description.
There is a virtual Art gallery for every époque – the Greek Gallery, the Roman Gallery, the Byzantine Gallery … The students navigate by a 3D-model, and all works of art are presented by means of information from the bank of illustrations.
Virtual excursions. To make up for the lack of real-life excursions, each course contains a virtual week-long art history excursion.
The stave churches of Norway are presented extensively through lectures, animations, and 3D-models.
Analysis of works of art. The ability to analyze works of art is trained by means of a guided analysis and examples linked to a general, structured analysis of painting, sculpture, and architecture.
General analysis contains a survey of the concepts of analysis organized in a hierarchical structure.
Terms and concepts. Short explanations of terms and concepts in art history. If the term is connected to analysis, it is liked to the relevant illustrations and structured analysis resources.
User’s manual or Help. Explanations of the functions of the various buttons and links in the online course.
