Run the compiler with the -version switch to see what release
version is provided on the system.
Applications usually need a module file to be loaded for the
proper (re)definition of environment variables, command paths and
manpage paths. In addition to reducing the pollution of PATH
and MANPATH modules allows for the users to select an
individual release of an application if more than one release is
installed.
A reasonable set of modules is loaded by default on login, giving
access to system compilers, the queueing system, debugger and freely
available software. Type module list after login to se what is
loaded by default.
To list the set of available applications and application releases,
type module avail. Usually, a short descriptive help text on the
application is available with module help
modulefile. For more information on modules, refer to the
module(1) manpage and the modules
paper.
To comply with license terms you will need to be the member of an application group to access most commercail applications, i.e. adf to use adf, gaussian to use Gaussian 98 etc. Type module help
modulefile for information on required group membership.
The following programming paradigms listed below are available on the system
- MPI
- The standard library for message passing parallel programming
- PVM
- A heavily used MP library in the past. Use MPI for new applications.
- OpenMP
- An emerging standard for shared memory directive based parallel programming. Enabled by adding the -mp switch to the compiler command line. See also pe_environ(5).
- SHMEM
- One-sided MP library developed originally for use on CRAY MPP systems.
- BSP
- An alternative SPMD library to MPI and PVM using efficient one-sided communications.
- pthreads
- POSIX standard for explicit multithreaded (shared memory) programming.
The MPI and PVM message passing libraries requires the mpt
module which is loaded by default. BSP requires the bsp module to be
loaded.
This section applies to local site users only.
We will make applications licensed for campus usage on Programvaretilbudet ved NTNU available on request.
