Martin Eide is a member of the DigiCult core group. Eide’s main area of research has been on the role and power media and journalists have in society. He has also done extensive work on political communication and the political role of media as well as on sociological aspects of news-production. Eide has written several books and articles about Norwegian popular journalism. He has also conducted several research projects focusing on journalism and media history, e.g. on the popularization of Norway's largest newspaper and on the history of an editorial role in a Norwegian context. His latest book, “Saklighetens Lidenskap” [Passion of Impartialiy] (2006), is a socio-historical biography of an important, although neglected, press strategist and newspaper editor Christian A. R. Christensen (1906-67). Martin Eide is at the moment one of the editors in chief of a national project on press history, a work which is scheduled to result in a four volume account of Norwegian press history by 2010. Since 2002 he has served as a member of - and the last years as head of - the board of a programme in Norwegian Research Council, named KIM (Kommunikasjon, IKT, Medier) [Communication, ICT, Media].
