Research areas:
Rock reinforcement: Theory and practice in dealing with difficult rock conditions, particularly in highly stressed, both weak and hard, formations.
Failure of hard rock: Criterion for extension failure under compresion (e.g. spalling and slabbing), applications for design and ground stabilization.
Stability and risk assessment of underground spaces: Rock mass characterisation, stability analysis, rock mechanics related to mining, tunnelling and other underground excavations.
In-situ measurements: Rock stress measurment, rock deformation measurement, back-calculations for improvement of rock reinforcement, design, etc.
