Nordberg campaign I of World in Flames
We play the Global war campaign using the latest rules and erratas. The game started in early August 2005, and is played every Friday evening in Gautes apartment at Nordberg, Oslo.
House rules used in this campaign:
- Fortifications
Write down the location and facing when building forts. Up until placement the player may remove the fort from the production spiral and get half the cost back.
- Züder sea
The Züder sea (Netherlands) is not part of the North Sea for WiF purposes. No shore bombardment or naval invasions is allowed in hexes 1035 and 0939.
- Voluntairly introduction of new technology
At the beginning of each year, when new units are added to the force pools, the owner may choose which units to add instead of adding all. Those not added are permanently removed from play (to scrap heap).
- In search of Vichy
We use the Millennium annual rules for Vichy France.
- Simultaneous conquest
In order to avoid the Saudi Arabia problem we have decided to use initiative to determine the order of conquest.
- Weather mulligan
Germany starts with a mulligan dice that can be used to reroll weather. The dice is passed over to the other side each time it has been used. Weather can be rerolled only once each turn.
- Limited overseas supply
The rule is modified so that you can break supply with your ships or aircraft unless someone friendly to the owner of the transport or convoy escorts them. It does not matter anymore who recieves the supply shipments. (This makes it easier to break supply, while at the same time opening up the rule for abuse for example if you use Japanese convoys to supply Italians and Germans in North Africa. The Italian fighters in the 2-box now prevents CW from cutting the supply while the Japanese convoy cannot be sunk. But what can poor Stalin do when Hitler, Mussolini and Churchill agrees....)
Options used:
We play with all options except 16(Recruitment limits), 17(HQ movement), 32(Carpet bombing), 40(Chinese attack weakness), 49(Hitlers war), 63(Intelligence) and 64(Japanese command conflict). We do not play with hidden task forces and not with rough seas.
Kits used:
All kits contained in the 2005 super deluxe package are used. We use all MiF units, also the duplicates. The GBA units from LiF are also used, as well as all ordinary units from that counter sheet.
The players:
USSR and France – Gaute Birkeli(me)
CW and Free France – Fred Fřrde
USA and China – Espen Larsen
Germany and Italy – Sten Hugo Hiller
Japan - Jan Einar Tamber
Setup - USA
Nothing spectacular.

The Siberians are set up in Baku and Ashqabad and Zhukov on the map edge, ready to go westwards. A strong force and lots of bombers are set up on the Rumanian border. A lone Cav is set up in Minsk. The transport is in Rostov.
Setup - Italy
Balbo is in Africa, at the Sudanese border with a supply unit. The fleet is set up in Trieste with the Inf division and the broken down Mtn unit.
Setup - China
Defensive setup with a nationalist Cav north of the communists. The cav is broken down before the game starts.
Setup - CW
The Inf defends Malta while the engineer sits on Gibraltar, waiting to be reinforced.
Setup - France
France is set up with a strong defensive line on the Italian border. The transport starts in Beirut, ready to ship the Inf to France.
Setup - Japan
I forgot to write down how the Japanese were set up.
Setup - Germany
Germany starts with the army split evenly between the east and west front. The two Inf HQs are on the Polish border, while Rundstedt is ready to take on the fight against the French. The Luftwaffe is set up mainly in the west, with only a couple of stukas against the Poles. The Mtn starts north of Kiel, and has been broken down into divisions.

It is now summer 1943 and the guns seem to quiet down. Rumors are that both Adolf Hitler and Tojo Hideki have been deposed. Delegations arrive in Washington a few days later and peace talks are initiated.
It semes that the loss of half the CV fleet and all the CV planes and their pilots has broken Japans spirit. To add insult to injury, all convoys in South China sea have been lost. On the other side of the world, Germany lost their battleships, cutting off the beachead in England. The Russians are across Visla, and are now in full wartime production as their stockpiles of supplies and fuel are building up for offensives.
The players agree to quit the game and start over again. The lesson of the day is that Japan can not afford to ignore China. We do not recommend the alternative Vichy rules.
