I'm originally from the northern part of Norway, more specifically a small community called Hamarøy. In 1996 I moved to Oslo, the capital of Norway, and began my university studies.

I've studied astronomy, mathematics, information technology and physics at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Oslo. In June 2002 I finished my Master's thesis in Astronomy at the Institute of Theoretical Astrophysics. I started my PhD at the same institute in September 2005 working on gamma-ray bursts. I'm co-author of a popular science book called Himmelkalenderen ("The Sky Calendar").
