Tromsø
Tromsø is the geomagnetic observatory for North-Norway. It is located on the Tromsø island close to the town's centre. When established in 1929 it was located in peaceful, rural surroundings. Today it more or less engulfed by built up areas, but the magnetic environments are still satisfactory. The series of magnetic recordings are unbroken for the entire period of operation, the second world war included. Together with its observatory predecessor at Haldde - close to Alta, 150 km north-east of Tromsø - the time back to 1912 is covered.
