Summary:
The major aim of this project is to contribute to improvements in the quality and effectiveness of services for unemployed social assistance recipients at risk of social exclusion. In Norway, there is a lack of reliable knowledge about the effectiveness of activation programmes implemented to further work participation and social inclusion among members of this target group. The ambition of this project is to fill this knowledge gap, first by proposing a new evaluation methodology, i.e. amulti-site social experiment in which random assignment will be adopted to evaluate the effects of activation schemes. The second innovation will involve the application of the concept of social capital as a theoretical and practical tool as well as a yardstick for assessing the impact of project and the ensuing interventions.
