I am a theoretical and computational linguist who has worked primarily within the framework of Lexical-Functional Grammar (LFG). In my doctoral dissertation Topics and Empty Pronouns in Vietnamese, I investigated grammatical and pragmatic aspects of topic constructions and empty pronouns in Vietnamese and provided LFG analyses of these phenomena on the levels of constituent structure, functional structure, semantic structure and discourse structure.
Together with Koenraad de Smedt, I have worked on automatic proofreading for Norwegian in the SCARRIE project, which has delivered a prototype of a proofreading tool and several publications.
Together with Helge Dyvik, I have participated in the NorGram project, which is affiliated with the Parallel Grammar Project (ParGram), an international cooperative effort to develop parallel LFG grammars for English, French, German, Norwegian, Japanese and Urdu. In the NorGram project we began development of a wide coverage LFG grammar for Norwegian Bokmål on the Xerox Linguistic Environment (XLE).
My current research is in the context of the LOGON and TREPIL projects. In these projects the NorGram grammar for Norwegian is being used and further developed for the purposes of machine translation and treebank construction.
