HiO-IU cluster project

About:

The cluster project at HiO-IU has two aims. The first aim is to provide our students with training in cluster administration, maintainance and in parallel programming techniques and technologies.

The second aim is to use the cluster in computations for our research in dynamical systems, and in mesh generation in numerical methods for partial differensial equations.

People: T. M. Jonassen, S. Ø. Wille, Ø. Staff.

This page will soon be updated with more information and contain links to our results, and to cluster and parallel programming techniques tutorials and programming examples for students.

The cluster consists of a master machine, a frontend, named medusa.iu.hio.no connected to the net, and eight nodes on a private network connected by a Allied Telesyn switch. The master machine and the compute nodes has a Intel P4 prosessor and 2 Gb RAM each.

Master machine and compute nodes hardware spesifications:

Intel Server Board S875WP1-E - motherboard - ATX - i875P
Intel Pentium 4 2.8 GHz prosessor
4 x 512MB 400MHz DDR PC3200 ECC DIMM
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 80GB S-ATA
2 x Gb ethernet cards on motherboard
Switch spesification:
