As a publicly-funded university, NHH does not charge any application, admission or tuition fees to Norwegian or international students. The main source of funding for PhD students at NHH is through employement as a salaried research scholar at the school.
To cover living costs, NHH offers a limited number of positions as research scholars to successful applicants to the NHH PhD programme. These positions are for four years and include a commitment to work 25% as a teaching and/or research assistant for the school while enrolled on the PhD programme. The annual salary for research scholars for 2007 is 310,500 Norwegian kroner, which is equivalent to about 48,000 US dollars or about 37,000 euros. Research scholars are subject to Norwegian taxes and benefits.
Applications to the research scholar positions are welcomed from both Norwegian and international students. A result of this distinctly Norwegian funding arrangement is that demand for places is high. High admission standards ensure that although the best education is free in Norway, only the best students get in.
More information on the research scholar positions is available here.
It may also be possible to received funding from other organisations, and more information on some of the scholarships opportunities available is provided here.
