UNEP's "World Environment Day" in 2007 was held in Tromsø and created great interest. The Norwegian Polar Institute was strongly involved in the events, which gathered participants from 35 countries. An international climate conference gathered a number of politicians and experts on 4 and 5 June. The Norwegian Government observed the 20th anniversary of the report "Our Common Future", and the NPI and the Ministry of the Environment invited to the conference "Melting Ice - A Hot Topic? Global Change, impacts and actions", followed by "Melting Ice - A Hot Topic? Nordic Perspectives", supported by the Nordic Council of Ministers. The conference was held at the University of Tromsø.
