The World Summit for Sustainable Development
(WSSD)
This is the home page for the Norwegian Ministry of the
Environment's information in English about the process from UNCED in Rio in
1992 and forwards to WSSD in Johannesburg later this year.
In August and September later this year 65 000 delegates are
expected to meet in Johannesburg to define the plans for achieving sustainable
development. Their decisions will be based on the achievements and challenges
in the process that followed UNCED in 1992.
On these pages, you will find a summary of Norwegian
activities since Rio. We have attempted to cover all the major groups as well
as the Norwegian State itself in this summary. Our overview is structured as
follows:
- Internal activities in Norway
- Regional activities (European and Nordic)
- International/global activities.
You will find this structure reflected in the menu for in the
left hand border of this page.
Norwegian perspectives and inputs to the Johannesburg
process can be found on the Ministry of
Foreign Affair's page for WSSD (scroll down
past the Norwegian text).
