Norge.no – new public agency for Ministry of Modernisation

From 1 January 2005, the project Norge.no will be reorganised as a public agency subordinate to the Ministry of Modernisation. The Norwegian version of Norway.no has been run from the County Governor’s Office in Sogn og Fjordane since January 2000.

- Norge.no’s trial period is over. Its name and web address is common property and from next year Norge.no will be organised as a public agency, located in Leikanger, Sogn og Fjordane, said the Minister of Modernisation, Mr. Morten A. Meyer.

The Ministry of Labour and Government Administration has evaluated the project and concluded that Norge.no should continue its work. From next year, the project will become a public agency.

- Norge.no is the gateway for people to access public information and public services and the agency shall continue to be run from Leikanger. We have not considered any other alternative, said Meyer.

Today Norge.no comprises 14 employees. In addition to running the web portal, www.norway.no, Norge.no manages a help desk which may be contacted by telephone, e-mail, e-chat and SMS for help in navigating the public sector.
