[25.-26.10.2007] SIU is organising its biennial Bridges of Knowledge conference for 2007 on 25th – 26th October 2007 at Solstrand Hotel near Bergen, Norway.
Conference theme
Rethinking internationalisation of higher education: Evidence of quality and strategic directions?
Internationalisation is a popularly-embraced concept in higher education today, with institutions of higher learning increasingly applying internationalisation benchmarks to their aims and activities, and considering an international marketplace for their programmes. It is generally accepted that internationalisation is desirable and beneficial, and helps to create globally competitive graduates.
However, what evidence exist that internationalisation necessarily enhances higher education, teaching and research? What should higher education institutions be measuring to evaluate the impact of internationalisation? How can we critically implement the concept, so that international quality and local relevance are secured in a mutually beneficial relationship?
The conference will focus on strategies and perceptions of internationalisation as a measure enhancing quality in higher education from the point of view of various stakeholders such as institutions of higher education, educational authorities and the employment sector.
