Experience and education:
Ingebjørg Birkeland holds a cand.philol. in Nordic studies from the University of Bergen, with additional courses from institutions in the US and Spain. Birkeland has broad administrative experience from work among immigrants and refugees, and from municipal information work. She was head of the Office for Foreign Students at the University of Bergen before joining SIU as head of section for European programmes. Birkeland has lived for longer periods in the US and Angola, and she has been employed by the Norwegian Council of Universities (NCU) as well as the Ministry of Education and Research. She was for several years the secretary of the advisory group on international affairs of the NCU, and has carried out several studies. Birkeland is a policy adviser in the group for policy and advice at SIU.
