2006-2007 / Course descriptions / TR200102 Statistics
Minimum college entrance requirements with additional 2MX/2MN (2 years of Mathematics in upper secondary school, general subjects).
After completing the course the students should have an understanding of correct data treatment and how statistical methods may be used in a planning, control, assessment and decision phase. The students should be familiar with the modelling aspect, central terms and solution methods, and they should- be able to do basic probability calculations,- be able to calculate location and variance measures,- be able to treat different types of discrete and continuous distributions,- be able to test hypothesis,- be able to do linear regression analysis and correlation,- be able to use simulation to determine properties regarding a statistic,- be familiar with Shewhart control diagrams and be able to asses sources for variability.
Descriptive statistics.Discrete and continuous probability distributions.Basic probability calculations.Estimation.Hypothesis testing.Linear regression analysis and correlation.Simulation.Process control, use of Shewhart control diagrams.
Lectures and computer laboratory. During the semester problems are given that the student should solve without help from the teacher.
Written exam, 3 hours. It is compulsory to bring the problems and solutions to the exam.
