Minimum college entrance requirements with additional 3MX/3MN (3 years of Mathematics in upper secondary scool)
Provide the students with basic knowledge in statics, mechanics of materials and hydraulics.
By completion of the course the student should be able to
- define and isolate a system for analysis
- understand and apply the laws and methods of elementary mechanics.
Statics:
Definitions, concurrent forces,Plane force systems, Force moments, plane structures, trusses, frames, cables, friction, shear forces, bending moment.
Mechanics of materials: Tension, compression and shear, Stresses and deformation in beams and
axially loaded members, torsion of cylinders, pressure vessels.
Fluid mechanics: Properties of fluids, hydrostatics, conservation of mass in fluid flow, Bernoullis equation including effect of pmps and turbines. Fluid friction and computation of flow rate in simple tube systems. Flow in open channels. Reaction forces.
Lectures, independant studies, exercises
2/3 of handed in exercises in main disiplines (statics, mechanics of materials and hydraulics) must have been approved to sit for the exams
3 written exams:
1. 2 hours in October
