Credits
12.00

Target Audience
Second year, medical laboratory technology students

Prerequisites

BI201302Cell biology and genetics. MK101202 Organic chemistry. BI101202Anatomy/physiology/pathology, BI101302 Medical laboratory technology.

Objectives

Students will learn basic knowledge about the structure of the immune system and how it functions, and learn to understand how the immune response is being regulated.Learn basic theoretical and practical knowledge of medical microbiology, and understand why and how microorganisms can cause diseases.Within immunology, the students are support to understand how immunological techniques can be used to diagnose infections. They should also understand the immune response at infections and autoimmune diseases.

Topics

Immunology:
-antigens and antibodies
-antigens specific receptors of the T-cells
-complementary- and the HLA-system (Human Leukocyte Antigen)
-structure and organisation of the immune system-
cell interactions and regulation of the immune response
Microbiology:
-structure and classification of virus and bacteria
-virus replication and growth of bacteria
-genetics of the bacteria
-pathogenic bacteria
-classification of substances causing infections
-interactions between host and microorganisms
Medical laboratory technology:
-immunological techniques:agglutination and precipitation
-growth, identification and resistance typing of bacteria
-serological analyses of viral and bacteriological infections
-biological and non-biological cultivation
