After completion of the course students should:

• understand the purpose and use of GIS
• how you by the use of geographic data can represent the real world in a digital system in past, present and future
• know where to find geographic data and which applications that are available
• manage a chosen GIS system

• Main components in a GIS
• Fields of use
• Conseptualisation
• What characterize Geographic Information
• Hardware and software
• Use of chosen application

Lectures, lab exercises, practical and theoretical exercises individually and in groups.

Portefolio whith a given number of exercises shall be delivered and approved within deadline.

Oral exam. Subjects chosen from the portifolio and mandatory literature.
