Verdigrunnlag

Teaching Methods

A variety of learning methods will be employed during the education, with a high degree of student centred activity, both as individuals and in groups. Learning is an active process and both the learning which takes place within the social environment and the student’s personal experiences will influence that process. Practical and theoretical experiences are the foundation for all learning. The main aim is that the student will develop personal knowledge and actively draw upon own experiences and knowledge.

Work Experience Placement

The practical placement studies constitute a total of 90 ECTS (60 weeks). These are divided between direct patient orientated studies, 75 ECTS and training in practical skills, preparation for and reflection of the practical placements, 15 ECTS. A programme for the practical placement is elaborated for each individual practical placement period.

The Faculty for Health Studies places weight upon the supervision of students during placement experiences which last for 6 or more weeks. Tutors employed by the faculty, have the overall responsibility in terms of supervision and guidance. This ensures that students receive a good learning experience within their placement. Throughout their placements the student will receive continual supervision and guidance from a nurse who should have supervisory skills and a minimum of one years nursing experience. The nurses within each placement have responsibility for mentoring students about particular specialities.

The student must manage each supervisory placement in order to continue the education and be entered for the exam. Work assignments in the various years of study must be completed/ approved in order to be entered for the exams and continue to further supervisory practice.

Period of Study Abroad

The Faculty for Health Studies offers students the possibility to study parts of their course at an institution abroad. It is our wish, that students who take this opportunity will be assured a high quality experience. The Faculty of Health Studies participates in exchange programmes and has drawn up contractual work agreements with those Universities and University Colleges involved. Information about these study programmes abroad can be found in www.hisf.no/ahf/international/.

Assessment

The methods of evaluation include practical tests, portfolio assessments, school based exams, home based exams, oral exams, and project exams. In some courses several forms of evaluation and examining might be employed. The results of these will be added to the final grade. In the final semester students will independently complete their Bachelor paper which will have a professional nursing and research based focus.
