Basic Studies in Medicine
The basic courses in medicine take one year. There are six of them, each yielding 10 credits; 3 courses during the spring semester, and three during the autumn. Students may, however, opt for only some of them. During these courses, physiology and anatomy will be introduced and physiopathology will be gone into in some detail, i.e. the nature, expressions and development of the most common diseases will be explained. Chronic disorders will be highlighted and relationships between society and disease will be discussed. The student will be given insight into the dissemination and distribution of diseases and will learn how diseases can be prevented. However, the basic studies will not provide the know-how to diagnose and treat diseases. The Basic Studies in Medicine must not be confused with Medical Degree studies (that prepare for the profession 'medical doctor')
