Centre for Peace Studies at the University of Tromsø hereby presents Working Papers No 6.
The centre arranged a conference on ‘Peace, Development and Rehabilitation in Sri Lanka’ on February 28th 2003. The invited participants comprised the following: Mr K.Godage from the Peace Secretariat of the Prime Minister’s Office in Sri Lanka. Mr Godage underlined that he was visiting us in his private capacity and that his presentation was not to be considered the opinion of the Sri Lanka government or the Peace Secretariat. Also present were Dr. Augustine Soosai Siluvaithasan from the University of Jaffna, representing the Tamil side. PhD student Camilla Orjuela from PADRIGU in Gothenburg presented the role of civil society in the conflict and we were also fortunate enough to have Geir Sjøberg from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Sjøberg presented more general aspects of Norwegian experiences in peace processes. Finally we had Jens Revold from the Norwegian College of Fishery Science (NCFS) here in Tromsø to present the role of Norwegian universities in rehabilitation in Sri Lanka.
