About us

Our center was founded in 2002 as part the Faculty of Social Science of the University of Tromsø. The main task for the Centre for Peace Studies (CPS) is to contribute to examining ways of creating peace by peaceful means and to make nonviolent handling of conflicts more known and recognized. With a small organisation in form of a board and permanent staff, these tasks can be effectively implemented. We accomplished the award of more than 65 master's degrees to our students, arranged 11 conferences and contributed to peace research during the past five years. Find more information about the centre's activities during the past years in our annual reports.
