The University of Tromsø has offered English taught Master's Degree Programmes since 1998. Some of them have been translations from ordinary programmes taught in Norwegian, but in the last years emphasis has been given on creating genuinely new programmes for an international market. These are studies within the University's areas of specialisation and with a comparative approach.

The University does not offer English taught bachelor's degree programmes, but an increasing number of course units at basic, intermediate and advanced level are available.
