The course is based on knowledge of physics corresponding to FYS-1002 Electromagnetism. The course treats traditional optics, waveguides and laser physics. Within these fields the following subjects will be taught: Geometric optics, Gaussian beams, electromagnetic waves, integrated optics, optical fibres, optical amplification, laser theory and some laser systems, with emphasis on the semiconductor laser. The students obtain practical experience through laboratory exercises. These must be approved before the exam. | Form of teaching
