Invitation to seminar, Dr J. Chau
Dr Jorge Chau, director of the Jicamarca Radar Observatory, will give a seminar next Monday 30th October in the Auditorium of the Auroral Observatory, 10:00 - 11:00.
The JRO is an incoherent scattering radar located at the magnetic equator near Lima in Peru. The magnetic field is horisontal at the magnetic equator, which allows the radar to make unique studies of ionospheric and plasma physics phenomena. The geomagnetic configuration is complementary to that over EISCAT which has the magnetic field nearly vertical. The JRO is also a powerful instrument to study meteors and is the most powerful MST radar in operation. The JRO has the largest VHF array antenna in the world with 18436 crossed dipole antennas occupying and area of 300x300 square metres. Attached is a summary of Dr Chau's seminar with a picture of the JRO site.
