Sommarøy is a vibrant coastal community in northern Norway, where fishing and hunting has been the livelihood since time immemorial.

We invite you to our outdoor banquet on this beautiful island. You will be served typical north Norwegian food fresh from the grill. Entertainment by local artists.

Sommarøy is about 1 hour by bus from Tromsø. The road to Sommarøy winds through some fantastic scenery.

On our way to Sommarøy we drive along the south side of Kvaløya, passing through Rystraumen where there are 4500 year old cave paintings at Straumhella. The old farms by the roadside bear witness to the long history of this region. Our road takes us past the jagged mountain peaks that rise straight up from the ocean on Senja’s north side.

On our return to Tromsø after the banquet, we travel through Kattfjordeidet and Kattfjord, passing within view of Blåmann, which is Kvaløya’s highest peak, at 1044 meters. We can also see the first of the giant windmills to be erected at the new wind driven power station.

Please remember to wear warm clothes and comfortable shoes.
