Advanced distributed systems seminar - Part 2
25.03.2003
Foredragsholdere
Keith Marzullo
Program
Tuesday 25.3, Store Aud., Mat.Nat, UiTø:
9.00-10.15: "The NAP Chronicles".
Keith Marzullo, UC San Diego/University of Tromsø.
A few years ago, we designed a protocol for primary-backup like behavior in mobile agent execution. We called this protocol the Norwegian Army Protocol, or NAP, because it used a linear broadcast strategy in a manner similar to troops following a point man into enemy territory. In this talk, we'll revisit the design of NAP, and show what is gained, and is lost, in using a linear strategy (as compared to, for example, a group communications-based approach).
10.15-10.30: break
10.30-11.45: "Isolation of aribitarily faulty routers"
Keith Marzullo, UC San Diego/University of Tromsø.
Routers are processors that can be compromised. In this talk we'll review the work done in protecting against compromised routers and present a new family of protocols for this problem.
