Abstract:
In recent years, search engines have gone through a quiet revolution in the search services they offer. Where, once they simply supported searching over large numbers of HTML pages, now they support searching over multiple media types, audio, images and video. Key to supporting search and retrieval over multimedia data is the semantic indexing of multimedia content. In this talk I will examine different approaches to multimedia search, from simple retrieval methods to semantic indexing. In addition, I will examine these multimedia search offerings, both from a commercial search engine perspective and from an academic perspective.
