Abstract
Otto J. Anshus, "AN OPERATING SYSTEM KERNEL FOR DEDICATED MULTICOMPUTER SYSTEMS", a thesis submitted for the degree of cand. real. at University of Tromsø, Department of computer science, 1981. - A kernel for dedicated multi-process operating systems is implemented on a Norwegian microcomputer, MYCRO-1. Processes communicate using Hoare monitors. Monitors are implemented as processes. The processor is timeshared among processes and monitors. Input / output is interruptdriven. Multicomputer systems are made possible using the "process- monitor"-concept. The kernel is written entirely in PL/Mycron (8 K byte instructions resident in primary memory). Several dedicated operating systems are described. A data collection system running on one or two computers has been implemented. Performance measurements for the kernel and some systems running on it, are included.
