Implementing QuA over OpenCOM
12.01.2004
Abstract
Middelware has become an important research area in recent years. As application programming has become more complex, the need for a layer between programmer and the operating system has increased. Research areas today, includes adaptability and Quality of Service (QoS) management.
To solve the problems related to these areas Component architectures has been widely adapted because of the ability for reuse and composition possibilities.
The Quality of Service Aware Component Architecture (QuA) project, at Simula Research Laboratory, investigates how to develop complex real-time applications on a component architecture platform.
This thesis considers the work of prototyping the QuA architecture. The goal is to implement the core component of the architecture in C++, and to use the exiting component framework OpenCOM. This framework is currently being implemented for Linux at Lancaster University, and a prototype of that work is used to implement some aspects of the QuA core.
As well as an overview of the QuA architecture and the OpenCOM environment, this paper presents the design and implementation of the basic functionalities of the QuA core.
