Abstract:
Thore Danielsen, "Teleconference. Model- and Service- description.", a thesis submitted for the degree of cand. real. at University of Tromsø, Department of computer science, 1982 -is a study of Computer Aided Communication (CAC) .
The objective of this thesis is to describe the services and functions of a teleconference system for microcomputers with a special importance attached to the subject: Human factors in the computer environment.
A general description of teleconference and teleconference is given, but first communication as such is discussed. A few thoughts about social implications of computer aided communications are mentioned.
Both the general theories concerning human factors (discussed separately in chapter 4) and the concepts of teleconference (from the discussion in chapters 2 and 3) is used as a basis for the main chapter (ch. 5). In this chapter a description of a microcomputer based teleconference system is presented. The system described is
divided into four processes:
an user-agent utilizing the other processes on the behalf of the user, and presenting the teleconference as a whole.
a text-editor for document-preparation and -production.
an archivist for document filing.
a mail-process for document transfer.
Only main functions in the three latter processes are presented, while the user-agent is specified in more details. The teleconference services are presented both as menues and as a list of commands offered to the user by the user-agent.
