AAA Support for Roaming Agreements in IP Networks
15.06.2004
Abstract
In an attempt to demonstrate the next generation of network services, telecommunication companies have initiated research projects set to focus on multi-service networks. Within these projects, infrastructures used to merge various network technologies have been built. Mobile communication has become an important part of such infrastructures.
Unfortunately, wireless network media introduces several security problems when roaming agreements are established between service providers. Among the greatest concerns are the risks of false claims about service access and attack against anonymity.
We attempt to solve these problems by implementing a system that reduces the risk for providers and users to disagree about the use of roaming services. The system preserves anonymity against foreign providers while ensuring that unauthorized access to the service is not gained. A protocol based on cryptographic principles is contructed as basis for communication between system entities.
To favor a proof-of-concept philosophy, a testbed is finally constructed to reflect a realistic scenario. Promising test results are presented and discussed.
