BaT - Publisher Browsing and Tipping in the WAIF Recommendation System
15.12.2003
Abstract
Since the birth of its ancestor ARPAnet in 1969, the Internet has had a tremendous growth, both in the number of connected hosts and the amount of data available on the net. As the Internet constantly continues to expand, the amount of information available on the net grows with it, and every day more information is made available.
Today, the most common way to find information on the Internet is using a traditional search engine. These search engines usually provide the user with useful results, but may also flood the user with results. The WAIF Recommendation System (WRS) seeks to ease the information search performed by each individual. This is done by letting those users that share a common field of interest exchange experiences by recommending data and web resources to each other.
This thesis describe BaT, a system that enable publisher browsing and tipping of a publisher in the WAIF Recommender System, a system for recommending web resources. The system will receive all of the publications from a publisher and make these available on the web for browsing. The system will also accept tips from members of the web outside of the recommender system and send them to the publisher.
