Forskningsinteresser
My research interests span a number of areas in chemistry, biology, and materials and nano- science, with bioinorganic chemistry as a specific focus of interest.

Some long-standing areas of interest include high-valent transition metal complexes and reactive intermediates, heme-diatomic interactions and biological signal transduction, self-assembly processes and dynamic covalent chemistry, and the synthesis of fluorinated organic compounds.

Environmental bioinorganic chemistry - specifically biological methanogenesis and the carbon cycle - is a new direction in our research.

Another project focuses on the use of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy as a probe of ultrafast dynamic processes in mixed-valence compounds, ionic solids, and superconductors.

We use a variety of tools in our studies, including chemical synthesis, electrochemistry, different spectroscopic techniques (electronic absorption, IR and resonance Raman, paramagnetic NMR, EPR, ENDOR, XPS, and X-ray absorption), and ab initio,DFT, and molecular dynamics calculations.
