Theoretical chemistry and spectroscopy
Emnebeskrivelse
Work Load 10 credits (ECTS) | Contents The foundations of quantum mechanics. Simple model systems will be treated (particle in a multidimensional box, particel on a ring/sphere, harmonic oscillator), with emphasis on their use in determining the electronic structure of atoms and molecules. The Born-Oppenheimer approximation and the concept of a potential energy surface. The theoretical basis of microwave, IR/Raman, UV and NMR-spectroscopy. Simple orbital interaction theory applied to pericyclic reactions. Orbital symmetry and the Woodward-Hoffman rules. | Form of teaching Lectures: 15 hrs Seminars: 45 hrs
