Acute Hepatic Failure - Pathophysiology and Therapy Experimental Studies in Pigs
Research interests:
Dr. Ytrebø's main interest during the last 8 years has been to study the pathophysiological basis for the development of end organ dysfunction in acute liver failure, and particularly to study the pathophysiological basis for the development of hyperdynamic circulation in acute liver failure.
Currently we are focusing on understanding the complex interaction between the vascular endothelium and vascular smooth muscle, and the impact different endothelium derived vasodilatory factors might have on vascular function in acute liver failure.
Papers:
1. Lactate and pyruvate concentrations in capillary blood from newborns.
2. The influence of growth hormone on tumour necrosis factor and neutrophil leukocyte function in sepsis.
3. Oxygen-wasting effect of inotropy in the "virtual work model".
4. Protein S-100ß: a biochemical marker for increased intracranial pressure in pigs with acute hepatic failure.
5. Mycardial metabolism and efficiency after warm continous blood cardioplegia.
6. Renal Elimination of Protein S-100ß in Pigs with Acute Encephalopathy.
7. N-acetylcysteine increases cerebral perfusion pressure in pigs with fulminant hepatic failure.
8. An experimental large animal model for the assessment of bioartificial liver support systems in fulminant hepatic failure.
9. Liver sinusoidal endothelial cells represents an important blood clearance system in pigs.
10. Albumin dialysis: a new therapeutic strategy for intoxication from protein-bound drugs.
11. Contractile response of femoral arteries in pigs with acute liver failure.
12. A lowered incidence of severe encephalopathy and cardiovascular dysfunction.
13. Effect of albumin dialysis on intracranial pressure increase in pigs with acute liver failure: a randomized study.
14. Interorgan ammonia, glutamate, and glutamine trafficking in pigs with acute liver failure.
15. Systemic and regional haemodynamics in pigs with acute liver failure and the effect of albumin dialysis.
