Educational Background: Coming from a country of about 250 ethnic groups with diverse cultural experience in terms of language, norms and values; I will nonetheless like to state that I had my first primary education from 1982-1988, my Secondary education from 1988-1993 which was then regarded as the senior School leaving certificate(S.S.C.E.) after which I proceed for my Bachelors degree in History (B.A Hons) from 1993-1999 at one of the most renowned higher institutions of learning, located at the Northern part of Nigeria (Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State). Consequently, this desire for intellectual knowledge and understanding was further enhanced with the pursuit of my Masters programme in Indigenous Studies at the University of Tromsø, Norway after my brief experience with a reputable Chartered Accounting firm (KPMG Audit).
Master"s of Indigenous Studies Thesis Title: The Road so far...? The Sarahkka and the Sami Nisson Forum. A general overview of their historical background, and a consideration on the roles of these Sámi women organisations in the Quest for the right to self determination of the Sámi Indigenous Peoples of Norway.
Thesis Topic/Question: 1.What is the historical background of these organisations? The question of evolution?
2. Who are their leaders and what are the similarities and differences in the leadership question within the context of Sámi Identity? The question of their various objectives, Past and Present?
3. More importantly, What do these two women organisation consider to be the role of the Sámi women in the struggle for self-determination? The question of Perspectives?
Motivations for applying to the MIS program: t is imperative for me to mention here that the human quest for intellectual knowledge and academic pursuit can lead a man to wherever his dreams can take him, after reading so much about the Sami indigenous peoples of Northern Norway, I thought if fit that the idea of coming to a first hand practical knowledge of this feat would be more than an experience to me, hence the idea of coming to the Universitetet i Tromsø was a good background for the acquisition of such academic knowledge, thus coupled with the hitherto conductive environment herewith.
