Motivations for applying to the MIS program: I am a Khoe-San First Nation Indigenous person of South Africa. Post 1994 with the new dispensation and Human Rights enshrined Constitution, we as Khoe-San indigenous peoples were finally given the opportunity to voice and make known our grievances. I joined our indigenous movement in 2000. I lived and taught in Mozambique before that. During the World Summit for sustainable Development held in SA, 2001, many of us became acutely aware of our lack of knowledge about the global arena of the indigenous peoples and how much they have accomplished, all the support systems and the networks. I then decided to do a degree in order to capacitate myself. During a WGIP session in Geneva in 2002, I met Mathias Ahren who told me to look out for a course on Indigenous issues at some university in Scandinavia. Anthropology department of studies in Norway with full scholarships. It was then that I saw the MIS Program. I applied immediately.
