Master"s of Indigenous Studies Thesis Title:
School on the "move": Nomadic Schooling of the Indigenous Evenk children in the Republic of Sakha Yakutia (Russian Far East)

Thesis Topic/Question:
Whether the nomadic school constitutes a step towards the future or it is just a backward move to a primitive lifestyle which could make the indigenous people unable to sustain in a modern world.

Motivations for applying to the MIS program:
Since my educational backgrond is culturoloy and history, I have been interested in traditional cultures, their relation to modernity and interaction with the industrialised societies. I also wanted to study different aspects of the indigenous people's culture. I am willing to learn about the various indigenous populations around the world because the knowledge of their traditions, religion and history is useful for finding sustainable and just solutions for the various ethnic groups in the Republic Sakha. Another reason is the Sami Centre at the University is well known as a high quality research and educational institute which accomodates international students as well.
