Educational Background: Interdisciplinary can.mag in Theatre (University of Oslo) and History (University of Tromsø) (Spring 2003).
Master"s of Indigenous Studies Thesis Title: Fishing Under the Consent of the Kingdom - From Local Requests to Indigenous Claims in a Coastal Sámi Fjord (2005).
Thesis Topic/Question: The development of a discourse on coastal Sámi rights on the local level and in public discourses from the 1970s up until today, with examples from Kåfjord and the Lyngen area. The thesis analyses how power relations influence expressions of fishing rights in an indigenous revitalization context.
The thesis is co-funded by the research project entitled “The Challenge of Indigenousness: Politics of Rights, Resources and Knowledge” at the Centre for Sámi Studies, University of Tromsø, financed by the Norwegian Research Council.
Motivations for applying to the MIS program: “The MIS program provided me with an interdisciplinary approach to the indigenous field, which I found very exciting. I wanted to have the freedom to choose the perspective on Sámi issues that I wanted, and at the same time, the program would give me basic knowledge and insight into central principles about indigenous peoples. The Indigenous Studies program has been central to my own personal development and for my future work in the indigenous world.”
