Educational Background: - Master in British Cultural Studies 2000, Centre for British Cultural Studies, University of Bucharest, Romania. Thesis Title: Towards a Phenomenology of Folktale Symbolism.
- Master’s of Indigenous Studies, Social Science Faculty, University of Tromsø, Norway. Thesis Title: Thesis Topic/Question: Cultural Mediation. A Case Study of Sami Research
Master"s of Indigenous Studies Thesis Title: This project explores the ways in which the work of Sámi researchers – connected with the University of Tromsø and working in different fields – challenges the Western scientific discourse on the indigenous peoples.
This project is based on personal interviews and analysis of texts by selected Sámi academics. In my project I am interested in understanding the various ways in which my interviewees, from their positions as Sámi academics, develop discursive tools for translating experience into political, social and spiritual power.
The thesis is co-funded by the research project entitled “The Challenge of Indigenousness: Politics of Rights, Resources and Knowledge” at the Centre for Sámi Studies, University of Tromsø, financed by the Norwegian Research Council.

Motivations for applying to the MIS program: “Before starting the Master’s of Indigenous Studies Program, my interest lay mainly in folklore and, in particular, in folktales. My conscious interest in indigenous peoples was triggered by the ethnographic elements of the novel Miss Smilla’s Feeling for Snow by Peter Høeg. The book has extensive passages on the Inuit worldview and understanding of family relations, landscape and resources. I took the opportunity to learn more about indigenous cultures by joining this program. Its interdisciplinary structure has helped me become aware of the political and juridical dimensions of the picture.”
