Educational Background:
Humanities cand.mag in Sámi Language, Literature and History (2003)

Master"s of Indigenous Studies Thesis Title:
Sámi American Family Stories and Expression of Saaminess: A Literary Analysis

Thesis Topic/Question:
In Sámi-American biographies primarily from the Midwest (Minneosta) and the Northwest (Washington and Oregon), how is saaminess expressed through oral family stories? The stories include both recent Sámi American immigrant arrivals and third generation Sámi Americans.

Motivations for applying to the MIS program:
The program looked interesting because it was interdisciplinary and it would give me a wider perspective on international indigenous issues. I was particularly drawn to the indigenous literature and story-telling aspect of the humanities module.
