Biographical Notes
Inge Baumgarten is focal point for the Prevention of Violence at the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Europe. Her responsibilities include technical assistance to countries and political bodies in the WHO Region of Europe to implement the recommendations of the World Report on Violence and Health and gender based violence as a means to prevent HIV/AIDS. Prior to joining WHO she worked in international development cooperation in sub-saharan Africa and South Asia with the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ). Her professional experience is in violence prevention, health promotion, sexual and reproductive health and rights, primary health care, international cooperation and development. She is a trained Medical and Social Anthropologist (MA, Dr phil) and has a clinical background in paediatric nursing. Her publications are on gender-based violence, Female Genital Mutilation, violence and injuries in Europe.
