Arctic Governance
Arctic Governance
The objective of the project is to develop a systematic study of institutional change in the Arctic and, in the process, to bring a new generation of young social scientists into the study of Northern affairs. The core question is: How does institutional change in the Arctic region affect the people in the region and the prospects for its governance? The question will be pursued through integrating the efforts of the faculty participating in the programme and trough a series of case studies.
Case studies involve resource management regimes for shelf resources as well as living marine resources, climate change, security issues, and jurisdictional questions. Participants: Alf Håkon Hoel (associate professor), Hans Kristian Hernes (associate professor), Oran Young (former professor II), Svein V Rottem (PhD student), and Torbjørn Pedersen (PhD student). The project is funded by the Norwegian Research Council.
