KVI-3220: Preparatory Course to Project Work Work Load 20 credits (ECTS) | Objectives The student must expand his/her knowledge within the chosen subject area as the basis for the boundary of his/her master''s degree project. | Contents This subject must be project preparatory, which means that a more general subject area must be selected, a thematic area that is relevant to the more specialized master''s degree project. The area may be selected from general, Nordic or Norwegian cultural studies. The syllabus list must be drawn up in consultation with the contact person or supervisor. If relevant, the syllabus may be chosen using the current subjects in Art History as a starting-point: KVI-2514 and KVI-2515, or KVI-2011, 2012, 2013, 2014.
The reading course should normally not contain literature that is already included in earlier examinations that form part of the study programme in Art History.
A completed bachelor degree in the study programme in Art History, or equivalent, is required.
The literature is in a Scandinavian language or in English, and a good comprehension of English is presumed. Other languages are possible, depending on the theme chosen and the student''s previous knowledge. | Form of teaching This subject will be offered in the Spring semester for the first time in Spring 2005.
Teaching, periods for private study and examination preparation are spread over the 21 weeks of the Spring semester, depending on whether the student selects private study or teaching linked to current subjects in Art History (see Contents Description point 5).
The teaching consists of lectures, seminars and group work. IT (ClassFronter) will be actively used. | Assessment The nature of the examination is either a take-home assignment or written and oral tests.
Aternative 1 (take-home assignment): A take-home assignment on a given subject that must be answered over a period of 4 weeks. The assignment must be 15-20 typed pages in length, not including picture material, notes and bibliography. By means of the take-home assignment the student must show that he/she has a satisfactory command of the depiction techniques in this field.
Alternative 2 (written and oral tests): A 45-minute oral presentation or lecture on a given subject that is central to the syllabus, and a written summary of the lecture, 8 pages long. The summary must be submitted at the latest four weeks after the subject has been presented. The examination lecture will be held two weeks after the deadline for the submission of the summary. Both form and content will be judged in each case, i.e. in addition to an assessment of the academic content, the formalities of the summary will also be judged (references, literature list), together with the execution of the lecture, which must include the use of illustrations. A combined grade will be awarded.
Performance in the course will be assessed with the grades A-F in both forms of the examination. | Examination semester Spring, Autumn | Type of course Theoretical subject. | Level of course/Year of study First or second year at master''s level. | Contact person/lecturer
