SOS-3002: Quantitative Methods Work Load
10 credits (ECTS) | Contents
This course involves a combination of lectues, PC-lab instruction and consultation, and individualised data analysis. It concentrates on intermediate-level statistics and data analysis for social scientists. This primarily involves multiple regression analysis, including interaction effects and the use of dummy variables, and multi-dimensional tabular analysis. Both descriptive and inferential statistics used in these kinds of analyses are duscussed. Students are given extensive hands-on practical experience in data manipulation and analysis using contemporary national social surveys for Norway and other countries. | Form of teaching
Eight 3-hour lectures and eigth 2 hours sessions of PC-lab instruction. | Assessment
2 essays.
Two short essays of approximately 10 pages each, based on the students'' individual data analysis projects, are required. One of these must use multivariate regression analysis and the other multivariate tabular analysis. The essays will be assessed jointly, and a joint grading will be given.
